Dictation for Mac · free · runs on your computer
Hold a key and talk.
It types where you're typing.
SpeechNet turns your voice into text in any app on your Mac: messages, documents, email, code. It shows you what it heard while you talk, and learns the words it gets wrong.
Free, with no word limit. Needs macOS 26 on an Apple Silicon Mac. The Windows version is in progress.
How it works
It shows you what it heard.
Most dictation apps show a wobbling waveform and hope for the best. SpeechNet puts a caption right under the line you're typing on, so your eyes don't leave your work.
An example: someone writing a message dictates a sentence. A caption under their cursor shows the words as they're spoken. One word it wasn't sure of has a dotted underline. After the text is typed, they fix that word once.
Hey, quick update about the weekend.
Your words, under your cursor
A small caption appears just below the line you're on, with the icon of the app the text is going into. No looking down to the bottom of the screen, no dictating into the wrong window.
A dotted line where it's not sure
Words the speech engine wasn't confident about get a dotted underline, so you see the likely mistakes before they land, not after.
Fix a word once, it's right forever
Click "Fix a word", pick the one it got wrong, type it right. SpeechNet remembers. Names, places, slang, the words autocorrect keeps ruining.
Hands-free when you want it
Hold the key for a quick sentence. Tap it twice to keep listening without holding anything, tap once more to finish. Esc cancels.
It tells you when it can't hear you
If your mic is muted or your AirPods are in their case, the caption says so within a second, and names the mic it's listening to.
Your voice stays on your Mac
Speech recognition runs on Apple's on-device engine. Nothing you say is uploaded, and it works with no internet connection.
Why SpeechNet exists
"I'm dyslexic. Typing is slow, and the dictation apps that actually worked wanted $15 a month and sent my voice to their servers. So I built one that runs on my own laptop and learns my spelling."

Questions
Does my voice get uploaded anywhere?
Never. Speech recognition runs on your Mac, and the free version does everything offline. If you turn on Pro's Smart Polish, the text of each dictation (not the audio) is sent to SpeechNet's server, which asks Claude to tidy it and sends it straight back. Nothing is stored. Your history stays in a file on your computer that you can clear any time.
Is the free version really unlimited?
Yes. There's no word count and no time limit. It costs us nothing per user to run, so there's nothing to meter.
Which Macs does it work on?
Apple Silicon Macs (M1 or newer) running macOS 26 or later.
When is the Windows version coming?
It's being built now. It runs speech recognition on your own PC too. Check back here for it.
What does the Fn key have to do with it?
By default you hold Fn (🌐) to talk. If your Mac uses that key for the emoji picker, setup shows you the one setting to change, or you can use Right Option instead.
Can I get a refund on Pro?
Yes. Unused credits can be refunded within 14 days of buying, no questions asked. See the refund policy.
