SpeechNet

Support

Most problems are one setting. Start with the fixes below. If you're still stuck, email a person.

Talk to a person

Email Tyrianhelp@gmail.com. A real person replies, usually within 2 working days (New Zealand time). The fixes below cover the problems people hit most, so they're worth a look first.

When you do email, include: your Mac model, your macOS version, what you expected, what happened instead, and the log file if you can (see "Send us your log" below). The log has timings and errors, never your audio.

Setup and permissions

macOS says it can't verify SpeechNet

Expected the first time, while early versions aren't notarized. Click Done, then System Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Open Anyway. Why this happens.

Nothing happens when I hold Fn

The caption says "Can't hear you"

My words go to the clipboard instead of being typed

SpeechNet needs Accessibility permission to press โŒ˜V for you. System Settings โ†’ Privacy & Security โ†’ Accessibility โ†’ switch SpeechNet on. It uses this for pasting only. It never reads your screen or your typing.

"No text box selected"

SpeechNet only types into somewhere you can type. Click into the text box first. Nothing you said is lost: click the caption to copy it, or find it in SpeechNet โ†’ History.

It won't type into a password field

That's on purpose. Dictation into password fields is blocked and never saved to history.

Accuracy

Send us your log

In Finder, choose Go โ†’ Go to Folder and paste ~/Library/Application Support/SpeechNet. Attach speechnet.log to your email. It has timings and error messages only. Your history is a separate file. Don't send it unless you want to.
